Editor's Verdict:

The name of this site is telling, just not in the way you think. Like most of the other sites in this category that have "government" in the name Government-Records.com aren't affiliated with your government, my government or any other government. What this site is affiliated with is several other somewhat questionable sites in this category. Government-records.com has the same pricing structure as Gov-reports.net and an almost identical sign-up page to Gov-records.com, right down to the cheesy "congratulations on reaching the sign-up page" video.

That said, the homepage doesn't look too bad. It's long-winded and repetitive but clearly some work has been put into the design and making the whole thing feel official. Many websites with "government" in the title appear to go to great efforts to brand and market themselves to look and feel different so the customer has the illusion of choice (do you feel patronized yet?). On the whole this works - it all feels like a pretty slick and professional operation, at least until you scratch the surface, at which point you realize that the homepage is structured to make it look like there is much more depth to the website than there actually is.

For example, there is a sample report on the front page, but it's too tiny to be of any use and don't bother clicking on it either, because it's not a thumbnail, it's just very, very small. The FAQ link does not take you to a list of frequently asked questions; instead it takes you to the same email form which you reach by following the customer "contact" link and the "help" link. None of this bodes well, frankly.

What this website does have in its favor is a sign-up page where you can see, up front, the prices of the various membership packages on offer, making it easy to compare this site's fees with others in the same category. Some sites hide this information away until you type in your first search, so that's to their credit. The prices themselves are okay, but not great. Things are blatantly structured to persuade you to go for the most expensive option, which seems to be continuously offered at a heavy discount for a very, very limited time only. On the plus side, there is no repeat billing with this site - all charges are one-time only.

You should be aware that there have been complaints in the past about this site merely offering the same information you could freely find by yourself and using 'bait and switch' tactics - initially promising an "unlimited" search facility but then telling you that you'll need to pay an extra one-off fee in order to get the detailed information you want. Refunds and responses to customer complaints are also reputedly hard to come by - customer support is only available via an email form, which is much easier to ignore than a phone line. Whether or not these claims fairly represent how Government-records.com currently operate, these issues are undoubtedly a discouraging sign.

All in all, not great. It's basically the same service as with the other sites in the "government" entitled group, only with a different front-end. There's no free trial, the service appears to be variable in quality and the extras are pretty much non-existent. The bottom line is that you could do so much better.
