Editor's Verdict: Locatepeople.org is yet another people-searching website brought to you by the CIS organization. This is the company behind many of the less sparkling people-searching websites on the market and, true to form, Locatepeople.org offers only superficial differences tacked onto much the same standard of mediocre service. The Locatepeople.org home page is at least less cluttered and rambling than most other CIS sites. The layout is neat and organized and features several reassuring pictures of attractive people looking visibly happy about their recent people-locating experiences. Unlike a lot of other sites in this category, Locatepeople.org actually lets you see sample reports for several different kinds of search so you know the sort of information you'll be shelling out the cash for. This is a worthwhile feature, but bear in mind that when you get a real report back from Locatepeople.org there is no guarantee that all the boxes you see here will necessarily be filled, as there have been complaints in the past that the information offered by this site is incomplete and far below the standard expected by the customer. The site also offers an FAQ which is shared with several other CIS websites and is therefore rather too general to be of much actual use. There are two membership options, the reassuringly cheap one year unlimited search pass and the shockingly expensive one-off records check. The idea is that you will sign up for the former, which is initially less costly. However, in a daring re-imagining of the definition of the word "unlimited", the unlimited search pass only entitles you to run certain kinds of searches. The other types of search require an extra payment, which is subtracted from the membership balance established when you pay your initial "search results access fee" until you run out of credit, at which point you must buy more. You could, of course, choose not to buy more search credits, or better yet not even sign up with Locatepeople.org in the first place. Especially as customer support at Locatepeople.org is only via email form and it is reputedly very difficult for complainers to find anyone to reply to their messages, which is ironic when you think about it. Locatepeople.org shares many of the weaknesses of other CIS-run sites and really does little to distinguish itself from other run-of-the mill people-searching services. The membership system is convoluted and more than a little manipulative, while the value for money it offers is nowhere near as good as it first appears.
