Editor's Verdict: People-records.net is yet another site in this category belonging to the family of people-searching and background-checking sites that use the same search engines and provide much the same service, yet operate through differently marketed front websites. Websites in this group include, among others, Government-records.com, Gov-Resources.com and UndercoverDetective.com, whose site is almost identical to this one. None of these sites are much good, in our opinion, and sadly this also goes for People-records.net. There isn't that much to this website except a searching form, a handful of links - many of which lead to the same place - and a lot of reassuring sales blurb. What this site does seem to offer that few other sites do is an international reach, encompassing the UK , Canada and Australia as well as the US. However, customer complaints suggest that the international searches are somewhat less reliable than the US ones. Mysteriously, the website features an FAQ link but no actual FAQ - the "FAQ" and "Help" links both lead to the same online form that provides the sole means of customer contact. There are sample reports available to view, but these are mysteriously hidden away under the "affiliate program" link and inserted halfway down a very long page where you're highly unlikely to find it. Which is quite discouraging. If you need any more encouragement to look elsewhere for your people-searching needs, you should also bear in mind that the membership system appears to be fairly straightforward and offer good value for money, but is in fact rather convoluted and geared towards making you spend much more money than you initially thought you would have to. There have been several complaints about this company using something akin to "bait and switch" tactics - offering users apparently affordable "unlimited" memberships and then returning practically no information, but promising that the full results will be available if you pay an additional one-off fee. Refunds are allegedly quite difficult to come by. No doubt People-records.net are very careful to break no actual laws, but even so there's no reason why the consumer should have to put up with this sort of nonsense when there are many much better alternatives around. Our advice is to stay away and instead try out one of the many sites we've reviewed in this category which take their customers, and not just their profits, seriously, all of which offer a thoroughly reliable, professional and trustworthy service.
