When it comes to your family’s safety, you can’t be too careful. Spy Fly is a background check website which understands this, emphasizing the uses of its proactive monitoring system. The SpyFly.com service will automatically alert you on new records published on up to 4 individuals, and will let you know if anybody from the sex offenders register has moved in near you.

You’ll have to decide for yourself whether or not you feel that you’d like to have this information, or whether it should be available to the public. However, receiving automatic updates is, in theory, a very useful feature of this website. It means that you won’t need to keep performing checks for the same people over and over again, therefore reducing the amount of time you need to spend performing background checks.

A further interesting feature of the site is the Emergency Response Profile. This allows you to store vital information about yourself and your family, in case their files should go missing. This does seem quite unlikely, but it’s always nice to have a back up just in case.

Talking of your personal information that may be stored online –  you can also use Spy Fly to locate and alter your records, even deleting them. This means that you’ll be harder to track down using a similar service. There are, however, limits to this (otherwise all criminals would simply delete their files), so please contact the site’s members' support team for more details.

Beyond alerts and criminal record checks, you can also find out personal finance information and locate business associates. This could be useful in finding links between companies. However, before you are allowed to proceed, you have to agree not to use the service to gather information which might influence decisions about employment, insurance, consumer credit or tenants. 

Searching for a person is easy (you only need their name and state), but is a pretty slow process. You may find yourself waiting several minutes to get the information you need, only to find it’s not what you were looking for.

Meanwhile, prices are a little high. A 7 day trial offers good value but you need to be careful and make sure you cancel your trial, otherwise you’ll be charged the full whack for 1 month’s unlimited membership. All memberships allow you to request as many reports as you like. 

With a slow service and relatively high prices, SpyFly won’t be for everyone. However, if you wish to receive regular checks on potential threats in your area, SpyFly could be useful. Additionally, being able to keep up to date on up to 4 individuals could be a big time saver. Still, in other key areas, we weren’t convinced that spyfly performed particularly well over its peers.
