Editor's Verdict: UndercoverDetective.com is indeed working undercover, but not as a detective. It's actually an alias for another site reviewed in this categorysite, People-Records.net. In a way it's understandable that People-Records.net would want to assume a new persona, as it is said that they have received many customer complaints in the past. Unfortunately, even though the name is different, everything else about the site is pretty much the same, from the presentation, to the manipulative registration page, to the frequent customer allegations of poor service. Apparently, re-branding can't cure all of society's ills after all. UndercoverDetective.com and People-Records.net are actually part of a much larger family of nearly identical people-searching websites. All of these use similar search engines and membership schemes and are clearly constructed by cutting and pasting the same sets of graphics, blurb and online forms and recombining them so that each website looks slightly different. However, they're all essentially the same service and not sites we would recommend. The site looks fairly professional and convincing on the surface, but closer inspection reveals that there is very little substance behind the front page. There are, for example, essentially no extra features and not even a proper FAQ. The FAQ link actually leads to the same email form as the customer contact link and contains no answers to any questions you might have, frequently asked or otherwise. There is a choice of membership packages with UndercoverDetective.com, but the sign-up page is very heavily geared towards persuading you to sign up for the site's preferred option. This is, of course, the most expensive of the various schemes available but also the choice that would theoretically provide the best value for money in the long run, assuming of course you ever actually received the information you were paying for. Sadly, a great deal of customer feedback suggests that this is often not the case. Accusations against this site and its siblings include charging customers for poor or incomplete information, often no more than you would get from a free Google search; subsequently offering you a more rigorous search for an extra fee (a 'bait and switch' tactic) and proving unresponsive to customer complaints, particularly when they involve requests for refunds. Like most questionable people-searching sites, the only means of customer contact is via an easily-ignorable email form. Suffice it to say that whilst UndercoverDetective.com probably doesn't break any actual laws, the service it provides seems to fall far short of what any paying customer should reasonably expect. Clearly this site is not one of the better choices around for anyone looking to conduct any background checks or people searches and we would suggest that you consider one of our higher ranking background check websites instead.
